Tattoo Aftercare

You did it! Congratulations on your new tattoo! Your tattoo artist put in a ton of hard work and dedication, and it really shows in your new piece. Below you will find some tips and guidelines for helping your tattoo heal flawlessly.

Aftercare Instructions

Upon completion of the tattoo, Saniderm (a clear tattoo aftercare adhesive bandage) will be placed over the entire tattoo. Abide by the following steps to complete your aftercare routine.

  1. Keep the Saniderm on for the duration told by your tattoo artist, usually 7 days. You are able to shower with the Saniderm, but do not soak the area. There may be fluid, blood and/or ink under the Saniderm. This is normal, but reach out to your tattoo artist with any questions or concerns.
  2. After the allotted time, carefully remove the Saniderm in the bathroom. Lather warm water and orange unscented liquid Dial soap in your hands. Note that soaps with moisture beads or fragrances should NOT be used. In slow circular motions, gently clean the tattoo until all fluids and blood have been removed. Rinse with warm water until the skin is clean. Gently pat the area dry with a paper towel. Do NOT wipe the tattoo.
  3. Apply a thin layer of fragrance-free Lubriderm lotion to the tattoo. After 10 minutes, gently dab off any extra lotion.
  4. Continue to care for your new tattoo with the soap and lotion for 4 weeks. Continue to moisturize your tattoos for longevity!
Scabbing

You will see scabs on your new tattoo. These scabs will be the color of the tattoo. Refrain from scratching or picking at the scabs. Your tattoo can take up to 4 weeks to fully heal, so do not touch it unless cleaning it in order to prevent extended healing times.
